The luminous voice of Carmen Durán

The voice of Carmen Durán fulfills what Baudelaire wanted to see in music, —you must read the letter the poet wrote to Wagner— an act of fathoming the sky. And we may not forget that the French Wagnerian – “a last fuse comes and traces a streak even whiter on the white that builds its bottom” – believed in a kind of music possessing magical powers, capable like poetry to reach a “prosody whose roots sink deeper in the human soul than what all classical theories suppose.”
The master’s words.
